David

“My name’s David. I’m from South Philadelphia, born and raised.”

“How would you describe your sense of style?”

“My sense of style, it’s kind of a collage of everything that attracts me. Things that wouldn’t ordinarily go together. Sometimes I fuse Indian styles, sometimes I’ll dress like a bum, sometimes I’ll, you know, dress like a goth, or … Everything in between and everything mixed up. So it’s a wide range of styles. It’s kind of an eclectic style.”

“If you had to put it in three words, how would you put it out there?”

“Diversified. Out-of-the-ordinary. And… anything goes. If you consider ‘anything goes a word, I dunno …”

“Yeah, we can hyphenate that. Anything-goes.”

“There you go, those are the three words.”

“What’s your favorite thing that you’re wearing today?”

“My necklace, because I made it out of a Zildjian gong and a fork. Excuse me – rather a Zildjian zil, and a fork. So that. And um, I dunno .. it’s the only one I made, so it’s more special. ” (laughs at self)

“Do you make your own jewelry usually?”

“I have. And, let’s see. Let’s just say I made about fifteen pieces. I kept five, I gave ten to my brother.”

“Does he wear them?”

percussion

“And he wears them. He makes jewelry as well, he sells jewelry. But I’m into other realms of art, so I’m gonna stay away from the jewelry-selling and something else to get my foot caught into and slow down.”

“About Philadelphia, what do you think Philadelphia’s take on style is, or how do you feel about other Philadelphian’s style?”

“You know … wow… That’s a really good question. Because, I would say in Philadelphia, like most cities people kind of rely on, to a degree, the media to show them what’s hot, what’s not, what’s new, what’s in… In other words, they rely on the media to tell them what to like. You know, and I don’t mean it for, in a negative way, so in other words we have this kind of like mindset, as most cities and so forth. Philadelphians, on the average they’re not really as, let’s just say, they’re a little more close-minded when it comes to people who dress in a way to express their own individuality. Okay, and that’s pretty much my take on it. Otherwise … can’t make a mistake with what you wear, man. You love it, wear it.”

“Cool. Oh god, there’s like … Oh! And your current obsession.”

“Oh wo- wow… Okay. I dunno if this part will be edited, because the news normally does, but I believe in God and the Bible. Next to that, next to that … This dance everybody’s lookin forward to – it’s art. Art’s in all forms. You know, I love to dance and play several instruments and compose and so forth and … That is it.”

“Cool, well that’s all my questions. Thanks a lot!”

give it up already
(We thought this was funny. This mind-blowingly unreal flyer was from an old man wearing a sandwich board that said “LAROUCHE: STOP OBAMA’S NAZI HEALTH PLAN”)

What was killing me (this is in the good way) was bondage pants with the phat wrist jewelry. So good, so right. But I’m a fool for not getting a side shot of David, because his hairstyle was really nice too. Shaved on the sides with slender dreads pulled back (you can kinda tell). Also, he and his partner had CDs… Anyone buy one?
