at the Mummer’s museum (part two)

July 30th, 2006 § 0

Amanda, age 23.

Amanda, along with Alexis and Liz in the July 27th post, is the third Central student to be on the site. (260 for all ya’ll haters in ya face. Look how grown and sexy we all got, rite?)

“What inspires you, fashion-wise?”

“Other good fashion inspires me… My mood, the weather, like it’s really hot out right now… My look is art fag meets wigger. I wanna see less bejeweled, bedazzled belly button rings and more girls that look comfortable in heels.”

“Do you have any predictions for what’ll become popular here in Philly?”

“The bandana trend will be huge now on the streets, cause Pharell started on it. It was a really Philly thing before. The Hundreds and Brown Babies, too.”

(editor’s note: the “bandana trend” is the wearing of bandanas around the neck like a bandit, something I’ve noticed to be unique to Philly [as in not seen in NYC], and mostly on bike kids and the random hipster. But Pharell wore one in a video apparently? Dag yo!)

“My current obsession? Tattoos! They’re the only thing I can think of that nobody else can get.”

Andrew, age 24. Ashlea, age 24.

And: “I just kinda throw things together. I try to not just put on a t-shirt. Magazines are inspiring sometimes.” (Ashlea interjects here and tells me Andrew is a music critic in NYC) “Yeah, musicians inspire me sometimes too. I lived in Philly for two years, but not right now. Prices are more affordable here than in New York City – there are more options. But some people in Philly don’t really try hard enough to develop their style. What’s my current obsession?” (laughs and then sheepishly admits) “Project Runway…”

Ash: “I like a lot of 60s stuff. I buy a lot of old deadstock magazines with dress from the 60s. I like vintage 50s and 60s fashions. The clothes from that era are more flattering for my body type, where I’m big here and little here, and then big here… Street fashion is inspiring too. I don’t care for designer names. In Philly, I’d like to see more stores – I end up shopping at the same ones all the time! More DIY designers!”
“So what’s your current obsession?”
“Other than Project Runway…?” (pauses to think, then starts laughing) “You know, I have this guilty sort of obsession with this one song… it goes ‘booty booty booty…”
“You mean Miss New Booty? I love that song!”
“Yes! Miss New Booty… I even downloaded it from iTunes and everything…”
(Ashlea and I [mostly me] proceed to yell out BOOTY BOOTY BOOTY BOOTY ROCKIN EVERYWHERE for a few seconds, and then the music of the band starting up drowns us out.)
